Young striker out to get more first-team experience after signing his pro deal...
He got his first taste of first-team football at Roots Hall towards the end of last season, and now Jason Williams is determined to make it a more regular occurrence.
Jason signed a one-year professional deal with the club at the start of the week, and has enjoyed two days of pre-season training with the first-team.
The young striker was in the goals throughout last season for the under-18 side, and is determined to make his mark for Phil Brown’s side this time around, following on from his debut against Exeter City.
He said: “Playing at Roots Hall was a great experience for me, and I was just disappointed I couldn’t score with the chance I had and that we lost the game.
“Hopefully the next time I’m out on the pitch at Roots Hall with the first-team I can impress, score, and be on the winning side.
“It has made me really hungry to get back into the first-team again because it was such a good feeling stepping out at Roots Hall in a Southend United shirt.
“I’m really looking forward to being in and around the first-team for the whole of pre-season. Hopefully I can get some minutes under my belt in the pre-season friendlies.”
Williams also praised the role of Ricky Duncan, the club’s Academy Manager, and thanked him for his support during his time with the academy.
The striker is now looking forward to being coached by manager Phil Brown.
He added: “I’ve been here for nearly four years now and Ricky has played a big part in helping me to earn a professional contract with the club.
“He’s been very supportive since the day I joined, helping me improve on and off the pitch. I’m very appreciative of what he has done for me.
“I’m now looking forward to working with Phil Brown. He’s managed at the highest level so it’ll be great to work with him day in day out.”
