Weston enjoys his first day as a Southend United player...
Summer signing Myles Weston says he is settling in well after meeting his teammates for the first time on the first day of pre-season.
Weston officially joined the club on July 1st, which was also the first day back for Blues’ players, and he was pleased to be involved at Boots & Laces.
The pacey winger was happy to have got his deal with Blues sorted, ensuring he would have the whole of pre-season to settle in to the club.
He said: “It was nice to meet everyone for the first time. I didn’t really know anyone before coming here today, but they’ve all helped me settle in really well.
“It was also good to meet the manager again in a team environment where he was talking about what he hoped we could achieve together this season.
“Pre-season is always an important time for team bonding, and I’m really happy I got the contract sorted early so I don’t miss any of pre-season with the team.
“I’m sure the trip to Spain will also really help with team bonding, being in that environment for four or five days is always good for the team.
“I’m really looking forward to pre-season, and making sure I’m in the best condition possible for the first game of the season on August 9th.”
The first couple of days will involve mainly testing for the players, before the hard work starts later in the week. Weston says he’s more than ready for that to come, having done some work before he returned.
He said: “Over the summer it’s always nice to have some time off, but then you do start to do a little bit to make sure you’re in good condition for when you return.
“The testing is always important so the physio and staff can see what condition we’re in on the first day back, and then measure it throughout the season.
“All players know pre-season is going to involve a lot of hard work, and I’m more than ready for it. The manager has already said the footballs will come out on the second day, so that’s a bonus!”
