Blues set for their first friendly of the campaign...
Southend United’s first pre-season friendly of the 2014-15 campaign is on Saturday, as Blues travel to Burroughs Park to take on Great Wakering Rovers.
The fixture against the Essex Senior League Champions has been a traditional curtain raiser for Blues’ pre-season campaign over the last few years.
Last year, Blues came away with a 3-2 victory thanks to a second-half comeback, having trailed 2-0 at the break.
Rovers had gone two up thanks to Gary Paterson, but Blues responded in the second-half with goals from trialist Cleveland Taylor, Ryan Auger and Freddy Eastwood, who won the game in the 90th minute.
Manager Phil Brown has confirmed that Blues will once again put out two different sides in either half, giving all the players a chance to get 45 minutes under their belt.
A number of trialists could well be involved, with Brown saying in an interview last week that Craig Fagan, who spent time with Blues during the first days of pre-season, could feature.
The game gets underway at 1pm at Burroughs Park, with tickets £5 across the board.
