Interview: Corr pleased to get off the mark

Blues' striker happy to get his first of pre-season...

Southend United striker Barry Corr was pleased to open his goalscoring account for the season in the 2-1 defeat to Braintree Town.

Corr levelled proceedings with a clever finish as he dinked the ball over the goalkeeper just after the start of the second-half.

The striker was pleased to find the back of the net, but says it’s all about doing it come August 9th.

He said: “It was nice to get a goal today. As a striker it is always nice to be scoring goals, but to be honest, it is all about the competitive games and the start of the season on August 9th.

“We were disappointed that we lost the game, though we know results aren’t the most important thing at this stage.

“The penalty decision was a bit strange, but I’m glad that has happened now and not in a league game.

“It was a good work out for us. The conditions were extremely hot, but both sides dealt with it well and played some good football.

“We’ll be stepping up our preparations next week by coming up against Colchester United and Charlton, before playing Ipswich and QPR.

“I’m sure after these four games we’ll be ready for the start of the season and the trip to Accrington Stanley on August 9th.”

Corr has featured in attack alongside summer signing Myles Weston against Billericay Town and Braintree Town, and the 29-year-old believes the partnership can thrive.

He said: “Myles has done really well since coming to the club, I’ve been really impressed with him so far, and he’s already got three goals to his name.

“I think we’re working quite well together and I’m sure as time progresses it’ll continue to get better and better.

“There’s Lee Barnard too who is an excellent striker. I enjoy playing in a 4-4-2, having someone up there alongside me, but it’s up to the manager of course.”
