Interview: Brown pleased with Spurs workout

17 July 2014

Good workout comes at a cost, with Michael Timlin picking up an injury...

Southend United manager Phil Brown was pleased with the workout his side got as they took on Spurs in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Blues' boss handed 60 minutes to those who only played 30 against Billericay Town on Tuesday night, while those who played 60 got half-an-hour.

There was some disappointing news however, with Michael Timlin suffering a dislocated elbow.

Brown said: "The lads are all looking sharp. They're hungry to succeed and it's showing not just in matches but also in training sessions.

"The facilities at Tottenham were absolutely superb, and it's great for the lads to be in that sort of environment as much as possible.

"It was a very good work out for us against Spurs, we played some good stuff once again. The lads are buzzing and going into games full of confidence.

"I have to thank Tottenham for inviting us down for a friendly - we got a lot out of the exercise.

"Losing Michael Timlin is a real disappointment. He dislocated his elbow scoring a goal so we'll have to see how long he'll miss.

"Ryan Leonard also missed out because of a heavy tackle against Billericay on Tuesday night, while Adam Thompson was still nursing a back injury."

Blues face Braintree Town in their fourth pre-season game on Saturday, kick-off 1pm.
