Blues boss says his players are raring to go...
Phil Brown says his players are 100 per cent ready for their first taste of match action following a ‘superb’ week in Spain.
Blues’ players were put through their paces for five days in the Spanish sun, and returned on Friday afternoon ready to take on Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday.
Blues’ boss feels his squad are in the right shape to get 45 minutes under their belts against the Essex Senior League winners.
He said: “The boys are in great shape. People always talk about peaking too early but it is good to be ahead of the game in my opinion and we certainly are.
“They could probably go for longer than 45 minutes, but we’re gradually building up towards that and everyone will get some game time.
“I’ll be putting out two squads in each half. The young lads, and a few trialists will be involved, but it’ll all be mixed about to get the best out of everyone.
“The younger lads have done superbly well since the start of pre-season. They are all looking forward to having that chance to shine against Great Wakering.
“During training they haven’t looked out of place one bit. Ellis Brown has also come in and done well just getting on with his work.”
Brown was also pleased to report a clean bill of health for Blues’ squad following two weeks of tough training work.
He added: “We’re in great shape throughout the squad. There are no injuries to report so everyone will be available to feature in the game against Great Wakering.
“At this moment it is all about fitness levels. Once we’re naming teams for the competitive matches, then there’ll be a bit more of an edge to training.
“The week away was good to bring everyone closer together. As a manager you get to know your players a lot better, being in that environment all the time.”
