Stagger to the Daggers
Several Shrimpers Trust members will be making a rather unconventional journey to Southend United’s next away League game when they undertake a sponsored walk to Dagenham & Redbridge.
The ‘Stagger to the Daggers’ will comprise of ten members, including the Southend Echo’s Chris Phillips, who will be walking from Roots Hall to the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium on Tuesday 28th January to raise money for the Shrimpers Trust and the Stroke Unit at Southend Hospital.
Through supporter membership and fundraising activities, the Trust currently provides sponsorship to Southend United’s U18s team and has also helped raise money for specific items required by the club, including equipment for the physiotherapy department.
The excitement surrounding this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Hull City shows how important Southend United FC remains in the town, and the Trust also believes it has a role to play within the surrounding community, which is why the walk will also benefit Southend Hospital’s Stroke Unit.
Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust cares for more than 380,000 patients each year. It’s the local hospital for the Southend area and beyond, providing a wide range of acute services and specialist treatment.
The Stroke Unit at Southend University Hospital, via its excellent services and state-of-the-art facilities, has dramatically helped to reduce the level of disability in stroke patients and has become one of the top three facilities in the country. Through the Trust’s fundraising efforts we want to help maintain the Unit’s excellent pedigree.
The Shrimpers Trust would love Blues fans to make a donation, and the process couldn’t be easier. You can visit the Just Giving page, http://www.justgiving.com/staggertothedaggers or you can download a sponsorship form from the website, www.shrimperstrust.co.uk and post payment back to the Trust.
The walking group - Scott Barber, Clare Brooks, Tom Brooks, Shane Chapman, Rob Craven, Paul FitzGerald, Lesley Hicks, Darren Posnack, Alec Trott and Chris Phillips - all have forms, and you can donate individually or to the whole group. Monies raised will be split 50/50 between the Shrimpers Trust and the Stroke Unit.
