Midfielder who has been on trial with Blues signs in time for the game against Millwall in the FA Cup third round
Southend United Football Club is pleased to announce the arrival of midfielder Bedsente Gomis.
The 25-year-old has been training with Blues and has now been able to complete a move which had been cleared by the Football League back in early December, but was thwarted until now due to a technicality with Gomis' international clearance, because his last club was in Spain.
The Senegal-born midfielder has signed a deal until the end of the season, with the option of a further year.
Gomis is now looking forward to starting life in England with Blues.
He said: “I’m really pleased to have finally signed for the club and I can’t wait to play my first competitive game.
“I have really enjoyed the training so far and the players are all great with me.
“Hopefully we can have a really good season, the team have been doing really well in the last few weeks.”
Manager Phil Brown said: “I’m delighted that we’ve finally got it over the line because it’s been a long process.
“We’ve had to jump through anumber of hoops to get this one over the line and it’s great that he can now be involved in the squad.
“His English is getting better by the day and he’s settled in really well with all of the players.
“He has been a pleasure to work with so far. He always has a smile on his face and when he gets out on the pitch he really expresses himself with a tenacity about his play.”
Gomis will wear the number 29 shirt for the rest of the season, and is eligible for today’s game against Millwall in the FA Cup third round.
