Graham Coughlan on the development side's 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon
Southend United drew 0-0 with AFC Wimbledon in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday afternoon.
It was the development side’s first friendly of the year, having not played due to the busy Christmas schedule and the weather.
Having not played much in recent weeks, first-team coach Graham Coughlan was pleased they were able to get some minutes under their belt.
He said: “It was good to be able to play the game and it probably wouldn’t have been able to go ahead unless it was on 3G.
“That made it slightly difficult for the players to get used to and it took us a while to get going really.
“We did create some chances in the second-half but neither side was able to find a goal.
“We had an under-16 goalkeeper in goal for each half and they both did very well. It’s great experience for them.
“I was slightly disappointed with the overall performance but it’s important to get minutes under their belts.
“We’ve got a few games coming up in the next few weeks to keep them ticking over nicely.”
