Phil Brown on the performance of midfielder Ryan Leonard
Phil Brown was full of praise for the performance of midfielder Ryan Leonard after his brace helped Blues to a 2-1 win against Pompey.
Leonard grabbed the equaliser just before half-time and then earned Blues all three points with a sublime late winner.
Brown said: “Lenny was on the money today. He’s come off in recent games but there was no way that was happening against Pompey.
“As a manager you get to know your layers and you can see when they are on form or not and Lenny was.
“The injury can take the edge off your game and the fitness levels drop slightly. Psychologically it has an effect too.
“But he was back to his best today after a few games of coming off earlier in the game.
“We want him to reach those levels again on Saturday when we take on Millwall, we don’t want it to just be for one game.
“When we went to a 4-4-2 he had the experience of Michael Timlin alongside him and it worked well.
“Then we changed again in the second-half and he popped up with the winner.
“We know he can hit a ball well and it certainly was a fantastic strike.”
