Brown: Barnard could make his return

Phil Brown on having to make a decision on Lee Barnard's involvement at Dagenham on Tuesday night

Blues boss Phil Brown says he has a decision to make regarding Lee Barnard, and whether the new loan signing features at Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

Brown opted not to bring Barnard into the squad for Saturday as he had only joined on the Friday afternoon, but has seen the striker in training twice since.

With Blues facing three games in six days, the first of those against Hull last Saturday, Brown admits he may have to mix things up to keep it fresh.

He said: “I’ve got a decision to make where that is concerned but Lee could be involved to some extent on Tuesday night.

“We’ve got three games in six days and I’m not sure Barry Corr will be able to start every one of those.

“So there’s definitely options up front now with the arrival of Lee Barnard. We also have Freddy and Cauley in good form.

“I’ve spoken with Lee and I know is favoured position is the number nine, but he can also play as the seven or the 11.

“That then puts pressure on Kevan Hurst and Anthony Straker too, so it’s great that we’ve been able to bring him in.”

Defensively, Brown admits his options are limited at present with both John White and Luke O’Neill out through injury.

He added: “I don’t think Luke will be able to make Tuesday but he might be back in time for Friday’s game.

“He looked good when he made his debut and we’re talking about possibly extending his loan spell with us.

“We’re waiting for a bit more news on John White to see how long he’ll be out for.

“Because of that, there’s not much we can change at present for Tuesday night, so it will probably be the same back four.”
