Lee Barnard can't wait to get started after sealing a return to Southend United from Southampton
Striker Lee Barnard says he is returning home after sealing a switch back to Southend United on loan until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old has rejoined the club from Southampton almost six years to the day since he first joined from Tottenham Hotspur.
Barnard made his debut in an FA Cup fourth round defeat to Barnsley, but having moved back to Roots Hall, he’s now out for success in the fourth round of the competition this time around when Hull City visit.
Barnard said: “I’ve come home to the club where I had a fantastic two years before moving on to Southampton.
“I really enjoyed my time here the first time around and I’m just hoping for more of the same this time around, with just as many goals.
“It’s funny how things work out in football. I joined on January 25th in 2008, and now I’m back here a day earlier in 2014.
“My debut was against Barnsley last time in the FA Cup when I came off the bench.
“I can’t wait to get started. I’ve had an injury that has kept me out for a little while but I’m fully fit now and raring to get going.
"I got quite a few goals the last time I was here, and hopefully that'll be the case this time around too."
Barnard was introduced to the Roots Hall faithful before Saturday's game with Hull City, and could make his debut against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.
