White: Time to turn draws into wins

3 February 2014

Blues' skipper on an 'important month' for Blues as they look to continue their promotion push

Captain John White says now is the time for Blues to kick on ahead of an important month for the club.

After three league draws in January, Blues’ skipper says it’s important now to turn those in to wins if they want to seal an automatic promotion place.

With that in mind, White believes the whole team need to contribute more on terms of goals.

He said: “Defensively we’re doing well and have the second best defensive record in the league which is very pleasing.

“But at the other end we maybe need to score more goals, that’s not the strikers, that’s the whole team chipping in.

“On Friday night against Newport we had a few chances that we failed to capitalise on.

“It’s good not to be losing these games but now is the time to turn those draws into wins.

“A point on the road and three at home means an average of two a game, and that between now and the end of the season might well be enough.

“But we have just got to keep doing what we’ve been doing and add goals to our game.”

With five games in February, all of which against sides outside the top ten, White has stressed the importance of the month.

But as the defender has said all season, Blues must take one game at a time.

“We’re in a good position in the league now but it is all about where we are at the end of the season,” he said.

“I’ve said all along that we are only looking at the next game and that is Mansfield, that’s a big game.

“Every game between now and the end of the season is big. If we can continue our unbeaten league run in February, we will put ourselves in an even better position.

“It was a busy week with three games in six days, but we’ve not got another midweek game for a couple of weeks.

“That should give us all the rest we might need to be ready to push on for a hectic end to the campaign.”
