White: A performance of two halves

26 February 2014

John White on the 2-1 defeat to Northampton Town

John White felt it was a two completely different performances from Blues, as they slipped to defeat at Northampton Town.

The sides went in level at the break with Blues playing some good football and creating a few good opportunities.

But in the second-half, Blues never got going, and allowed Northampton to step forward and win the game.

Blues’ skipper says it was extremely frustrating not to continue where they had left off in the opening 45.

He said: “It’s really disappointing because at half-time it looked like only one team was going to go on and win the game.

“It was a game of two halves from our perspective because we didn’t match them in the second-half.

“They changed their formation, the crowd got behind them and maybe we didn’t mix it up enough to trouble them.

“We knew they would be a threat from set pieces so conceding that early goal was frustrating for us.

“But we quickly got used to the formation and imposed ourselves on the game in the first-half and were confident at the break.

“Half-time probably came at the worst time for us because we lost the momentum that we’d built up.

“The third goal was always going to be crucial, but we didn’t do ourselves justice in the second period.”

White says it’s all down to the players to get Blues out of this winless run.

He added: “We have to be aware that teams like Northampton and Wycombe are down there fighting for their lives.

“But we should have that same fight, work ethic and determination because we want to get promoted.

“It’s on us, as players, to snap us out of this disappointing run that we’re on at the moment.

“We just need a win, it doesn’t matter how it comes, and we’ll work as hard as ever to correct it.”
