Midfielder Kevan Hurst signs new two-year deal with Southend United

Southend United Football Club is delighted to confirm that midfielder Kevan Hurst has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Hurst, who originally joined Blues in 2012, has made 89 appearances since arriving at Roots Hall, with 33 of those coming this season.

The 28-year-old was the top assister in League 2 last season, and so far this season he has got 11 goals and 11 assists to his name.

Hurst has previously played for the likes of Sheffield United, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe, Carlisle, Morecambe and Walsall before coming to Roots Hall.

The new deal will keep the midfielder at Roots Hall up until the end of the 2015/16 season.

The midfielder was delighted to have agreed a new deal with the club, and says staying at Roots Hall was never in doubt.

He said: “The club is only going to keep moving forwards under the gaffer, he’s been absolutely terrific since he came to the club.

“I’ve said all along that I wanted to remain with Southend United, and I’m over the moon now that it has all been agreed.

“Having been here nearly two years, I’ve really settled in the area, and I’ve always had a really good relationship with the fans.

A full interview with Kevan will be available on Blues Player later today. We’ll also have the thoughts of manager Phil Brown on the website later.
