Bolton Wanderers defender Cian Bolger joins the club on loan for 28 days
Southend United Football Club is pleased to announce the arrival of 21-year-old Cian Bolger on an emergency loan from Championship side Bolton Wanderers.
The central-defender will link up with Blues tomorrow and will be available for the game against York City at Bootham Crescent. He has signed a 28-day emergency loan.
Bolger began his career with Leicester City after coming through their youth system, and had loan separate loan spells at Bristol Rovers.
In the January of 2013, Bolger joined Wanderers but is yet to make a first-team appearance.
He has spent time on loan at Blues’ Essex rivals Colchester United, where he made four league appearances, earlier this season.
Phil Brown said: “We’ve been tracking the lad for a few weeks now and the reports from Bob Shaw on him have been very impressive.
“He’s not played first-team football with Bolton, but I saw him against Spurs’ under-21’s and it was a very dominant defensive performance against a strong Spurs side.
“He’s a big voice on the pitch and has all the attributes of strong defender. We’ve been missing that since Luke Prosser’s injury.
“I’m delighted we have been able to bring him in. It will help freshen things up and I’m sure he can play an important role.”
Cian will wear the number 15 shirt.
