News: Blues head for Portugal

Southend United head off for some warm-weather training in Portugal

Southend United have headed for sunnier climes this morning, for a four-day training camp in Portugal.

Blues’ players and staff jetted off this morning for some warmer weather training, before returning to England on Wednesday.

The poor weather in England has made it difficult for the players to train on the grass at Boots & Laces.

The trip will allow Phil Brown to give the players a chance to get on the grass and work on things ahead of the visit of Exeter City on Saturday.

Brown said: “It’s a great opportunity for us to get away and work on a few things before we welcome Exeter.

“A change of scenery is always a good thing for the players, but we’ve not really been able to train on grass recently.

“This will give us a great chance to do all of that, while improving the already fantastic team spirit.

“The January signings we made will also have another chance to get to know the group even better.

“The trip will be very beneficial in setting us up nicely for the final third of the season, and a busy couple of weeks especially.”
