Midfielder delighted to have extended his stay in Essex with Southend United
Kevan Hurst says he’s ‘over the moon’ after agreeing a new two-year deal with Southend United.
The midfielder signed his new deal at Roots Hall on Friday, and says it was never in doubt that he’d be here for longer.
The 28-year-old believes the club is only going in one direction under manager Phil Brown, and he wanted to remain part of that.
He said: “The club is only going to keep moving forwards under the gaffer, he’s been absolutely terrific since he came to the club.
“I’ve said all along that I wanted to remain with Southend United, and I’m over the moon now that it has all been agreed.
“Having been here nearly two years, I’ve really settled in the area, and I’ve always had a really good relationship with the fans.
“I want to help this club progress and get into League 1. That’s what everyone here wants and I believe it’s possible.
“We’ve had a little bit of a dip, but we’re still in the play-off places, and getting promoted out of this division is in our hands.
“I’ve loved every minute of my time here so far. My little girl and wife are settled, and I never thought about leaving to go to another club.”
The midfielder has been in the best goalscoring form this season, with one goal every three games, as well as one assist in every three too.
He’s been pleased with his form, but says everyone here is in it for the team.
“It’s nice to be doing well individually, but here everyone is just about the team and making sure we get promoted,” he said.
“The team spirit here is second to none, the best I’ve seen it in a long time, but we’ve had a little bit of a dip recently.
“As one of the more experienced players, it falls to me to help lift the other lads, but everyone is still full of belief we can achieve promotion.
“I’m pleased to have got 11 goals and 11 assists, and hopefully they can keep coming between now and the end of the season.”
An exclusive interview with Kevan will be available on Blues Player.
