Southend United beat Danish Superliga side Aalborg BK in a 60-minute friendly

Southend United beat Aalborg BK 1-0 in a 60-minute friendly on the second day of their four day trip to Portugal.

Aalborg BK play their football in the Danish Superliga, (the Danish top flight) and currently sit in second place.

With both sides out in the Algarve early this week, Phil Brown arranged a friendly with them, and Blues got the rewards.

Barry Corr scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, as some players got key game time.

Bedsente Gomis, John White, Luke Prosser (wearing his protective mask) and goalkeeper Paul Smith all got a good 60 minutes under their belts.

Phil Brown said: “It was an excellent exercise and a really good work out for the players all in all.

“We won the game thanks to Barry’s penalty and that’s always a positive when you’re winning matches.

“Four or five players played the whole game and the rest had a little bit of rotation which was good.

“The likes of Gomis, Prosser and White needed those 60 minutes so we’ve really got the benefits from it.

“Aalborg are doing very well in their division in Denmark and were a very technical side.

“But we more than matched them throughout and Barry’s penalty made the difference.”
