Academy Manager Ricky Duncan on Ted Smith's England under-18's call up
Ricky Duncan is delighted for goalkeeper Ted Smith after he was called up to England’s under-18’s for a third time.
Smith, who is already due to face Belgium on Tuesday, will go away with the under-18’s again in March for a double-header against Croatia.
And his Academy Manager Duncan was pleased for not only Ted, but everyone in Blues’ academy.
“We’re really pushing for Category 3 status, and to have someone being called for England is absolutely fantastic,” he said. “Ted is still working as hard as ever and trying to improve.
“It just shows everyone how we are as an academy and that we’re producing players who can play at the top level.
“Ted is an excellent pro who has dealt with everything that has been thrown at him this season really well. We wish him the best of luck while he’s away with England.
“He has had a couple of opportunities with the first-team, is the captain of the youth team, and has had these England call ups, but he’s remained level headed throughout.
“I’m delighted with the progress he has made this season, and it’s great to have him already tied down to a professional contract come the end of this season.”
