Community and Educational Trust holding open evenings in February, April and May
Southend United Community and Educational Trust will be holding open evenings in February, April and May, for young people aged 16-18 interested in pursuing an education or career with Southend United.
The open evenings will be showcasing the trusts education departments Sport Study Programmes, Futsal Academy and Apprenticeship Programme
The Sport Study Programme see’s student’s work towards at BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Sport, as well as a functional skills qualification. The course is split between theory and practical, with lessons over 4 days of the week. During mornings students take part in the classroom based sessions, covering topics such as Lifestyle, Anatomy and Practical Sports. In the afternoon students take part in practical sessions where they are taught by a lead member of staff. Students are taught the basics of coaching with the aim of developing high quality community coaches for the future.
Students on the Futsal Academy study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Performance & Excellence. As well as their studies, students train and play for Southend United in the Football League Trust Futsal League (London & South East), competing against other clubs such as Leyton Orient, Crystal Palace and Chelsea. Teams are also given the opportunity to play in the Soccer AM Futsal Cup, which is featured on Sky Sports. This course offers opportunities for students to progress onto university, scholarships in the USA and potential employment with SUCET.
Apprenticeships at SUCET are offered at Level 2 and Level 3. Level 2 apprentices complete an NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership, FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football plus Employee Rights and Responsibilities. Level 3 apprentices complete an NVQ Level 3 in Sports Development, plus a Higher Sports Leaders Award. Whilst completing apprenticeships with SUCET, apprentices are considered as employees and as such receive 20 days annual leave, a full Southend United tracksuit plus weekly pay of £80.40. During apprenticeships coaches learn about the role of a coach, working with experienced coaches to deliver high quality coaching sessions to our partner schools and organisations. Apprenticeships lead to potential employment with SUCET, with 66% of people who complete the Level 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeships moving into full time employment with the trust.
The open evenings will be held in the community classroom (next to the Shrimpers Bar) on the following dates:
• Thursday 3rd April, 4.30-7.30pm
• Tuesday 6th May, 4.30-7.30pm
