News: Blues defeat Charlton in behind closed doors game

Southend United defeated Charlton Athletic in a behind closed doors game today, winning 3-1 against the Addicks.

Goals from Will Atkinson, Barry Corr and Jack Bridge sealed the win for a strong Blues side against their Championship opponents.

Charlton's goal came from Mikhail Kennedy and their team included first teamer Joe Gomez and striker Joe Pigott, who has just returned from a loan spell with our fellow Sky Bet League Two side Newport County.

Ryan Leonard played 45 minutes for Blues in the win, with the midfielder continuing his recovery from a groin injury picked up in the recent win over Tranmere Rovers in mid-November.

The game as a whole allowed the players gametime following a Saturday without a match, and looking ahead to the game against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
