A match preview ahead of Southend United's game against Wycombe Wanderers
The Chairboys have had a fantastic start to the campaign and currently sit at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table.
The current position is stark contrast to the last campaign, where Wycombe fought off relegation into the Conference to survive on the final day of the season – at the expense of Bristol Rovers.
Manager Gareth Ainsworth brought in experience over the summer in the form of defenders Sido Jombati, Peter Murphy and Joe Jacobson, as well as striker Paul Hayes, and these players have been key to their great start.
The Chairboys have recorded good wins over the likes of Plymouth Argyle and AFC Wimbledon so far this season and have only suffered defeat three times in Sky Bet League Two – against Tranmere Rovers, Exeter City and Burton Albion.

The Inside View
Gareth Ainsworth: “They were one of the favourites for the league in pre-season and you can see why. They’ve got good crowds at Roots Hall and a good manager in Phil Brown.”
Dave Penney: “Gareth (Ainsworth) has turned things around there. They struggled last season but have done tremendously well this season, as it shows when you look at the league table, results and their performances.”
