An exciting opportunity has arisen at Southend United Football Club for an Under 21 Development Coach / Head of Coaching.  

Primarily based at Southend United’s Boots & Laces Training Ground, you will become an essential part of a dynamic Youth Academy working within the EPPP guidelines for a Category 3 Academy.

We are looking for a Development Coach with the ability to manage and coordinate the delivery of the Academy’s Coaching Programme for all players in the Southend United Academy from age groups 21 down to Under 9.  The successful applicant will also be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the Coaching Programme.  A key aspect of the role will be to produce and prepare the syllabuses to meet team and individual players needs across all the age groups in line with the PDP Programme.  

We are looking for a hardworking, highly motivated individual able to deal with the demands of working within full-time football.  The role will require someone with excellent coaching and communication skills, together with good administrative skills.  Reviewing practice will be a key aspect of the role in addition to monitoring data on activities, assessing outcomes and reporting back to the Academy and First Team Managers.  

Ideally candidates should have experience of working within a youth coaching education environment and will report directly to the Academy and First Team Managers.  Working within the EPPP guidelines, responsibilities will include staff appraisals, preparing and delivering In-Service training, and compiling player reports.  

Applicants must possess the UEFA ‘A’ Licence and Modules 1, 2 and 3 of the Advanced Youth Award would be desirable. The applicant must also be willing to undertake a programme of Continual Professional Development and required annual In-Service Training.

This position requires Enhanced Criminal Records Checks and checks against the Barred Lists and is exempt from Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974).  Therefore all convictions including spent convictions that have not been subject to filtering by the DBS should be declared.  

All employees of the Club must adhere to the rules and regulations of the Football League and Football Association and not knowingly do anything or omit to do anything which will cause the Club to be in breach of the Laws of the Game, the Rules of the Football Association or the Rules and Regulations of the Football League.
