Timlin: A real team performance

19 April 2014

Michael Timlin on the 3-0 away win at Rochdale

Michael Timlin says Blues will put Friday’s terrific win at Rochdale behind them quickly, to focus on Easter Monday’s game against Accrington Stanley.

Timlin scored the third goal in Blues’ 3-0 win, and was delighted both to get on the scoresheet and to help pick up an important three points.

But the midfielder was already calling for focus ahead of the visit of Stanley to Roots Hall on Monday.

He said: “We definitely deserved the three points, we put in a really hardworking performance and we were delighted to come out on top.

“Rochdale are a top side so it was understandable that we were a bit cagey early on, but we grew in confidence and got a good grip of the game.

“Every single player out there worked really hard to make sure Rochdale didn’t have any time on the ball and couldn’t get going.

“In the last 20 minutes we maybe sat a little bit deeper but that has got to be expected. We defended well though and kept another clean sheet, which is fantastic.

“To get a goal was great. I was disappointed not to score in the first-half, and I don’t get too many chances, so I knew I had to take the next one if it came along.

“But we’re already putting this win behind us because we’ve got another big game coming up against Accrington Stanley on Monday.”

Timlin says the third goal was absolutely crucial in deciding the course of the game at Spotland. He added: “We said at half-time in the changing room that the third goal will be absolutely crucial.

“Scoring so quick gave us another boost and the momentum again to kick on and that’s what we did until the last 20 minutes or so.

“They were picking off passes and we just had to stay focused to make sure we kept the clean sheet. We’re all delighted with the win, but we must move on quickly to the next game.”
