Sokolik: Make mine a double

Young defender hoping for a double celebration this May

With current club Southend United battling away for promotion from League 2, and parent club Liverpool battling away for the Premier League title, Jakub Sokolik is hoping for double celebrations this summer.

The 20-year-old joined Blues on loan from Liverpool in March, and is yet to lose in a Southend United shirt, ahead of Saturday’s game against AFC Wimbledon.

His parent club face Manchester City in what could potentially be a title decider, and Jakub is hoping both his teams come out on top this weekend to boost their chances of success.

He said: “It is a big game for us this weekend because if we win it will further increase our chances of finishing in the play-off places.

“It’s a big game for Liverpool too. I think whoever wins that will go on to win the Premier League, so hopefully Liverpool can win it.

“Seeing Liverpool win the Premier League and helping Southend United win promotion would be fantastic for me, hopefully I can help Southend to achieve part of that.

“It’s going to be another tough game, and we can’t look too far ahead, but if we win this one it will put us in a really good position.”

Sokolik has been really impressed with the atmosphere at Southend United, and believes it is a big reason why the results have turned in our favour.

He said: “It means a lot to everyone here, and we’re all giving absolutely everything in training to make sure we take it into the matches.

“Everyone at the club wants to win promotion, and the atmosphere around is one of confidence and belief.

“I think that’s a very big thing if you want to win promotion. We’re all pleased with recent results and just want to keep it going.”
