Sokolik: Determined to remain unbeaten

10 April 2014

Young defender is yet to taste defeat with Southend United

Jakub Sokolik is loving the opportunity to gain first-team experience, and is determined to keep his unbeaten Southend United record going this weekend.

In his five games so far, Blues have won three and drawn two, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

Partnered by fellow loanee John Egan, Jakub says he’s delighted with the experience he’s getting with Blues, and hopes he can continue to impress between now and the end of the season.

He said: “We’re on a really good run at the moment and I’m very happy that I’ve not lost yet with the club.

“Of course I want to keep that going as long as possible and Saturday will be another tough game.

“It was disappointing to lose the clean sheet run against Cheltenham Town but it was an important three points, and that’s the most important thing.

“As a defender, the clean sheets are what we’re looking for, so another one against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday would be great.

“I’m very happy here and enjoying being able to play first-team football. It’s my first time out on loan from Liverpool.”

Jakub and Egan have helped keep four clean sheets in their five games when partnered together, and Jakub believes a good relationship off the pitch has helped.

“I’ve said before that it really helps that we get on well off the pitch and are staying in the same hotel,” he added.

“We speak to each other a lot and I’m really enjoying playing alongside him in defence.

“We have a good understanding on the pitch. He knows when he needs to cover me and I know when I’ve got to cover him.

“Hopefully along with everyone else we can pick up another clean sheet and a fourth win in a row on Saturday.”
