Phil Brown pays supporter of 40 years a special visit after his hip operation means he misses two Blues games
Phil Brown today paid a visit to fan Chris Compton to wish him well following a hip operation that meant he missed Blues’ last two home games.
Chris has been a Southend United fan for 40 years, but missed the wins against Torquay United and Oxford United.
Blues’ boss heard of Chris’ absence, via our friends at BBC Essex, from the two matches and decided to pay him a visit on Tuesday afternoon, with the DVD’s from both games.
Brown spent 30 minutes talking to Chris about all things Southend United.
After his visit, Phil said: “It’s great to be able to give something back to the fans, and obviously Chris hasn’t been well.
“From speaking to him, he was absolutely gutted to miss the two wins we’ve had at Roots Hall recently.
“So to give him the DVD’s and pay him a surprise visit will hopefully put a smile back on his face.”
Chris said: “I thought it was an April Fools at first, so I couldn’t believe it when Phil Brown and a camera crew turned up.
“I’ve been really impressed with him this season and hopefully we can go on and win promotion.
“It’s really nice to know the manager of the club is willing to take time out of his busy schedule to come and visit you.
“I’m looking forward to sitting down tonight and watching the two DVD’s.”
