Ben Coker has signed a new contract with Southend United to keep him at Roots Hall until 2016
Southend United Football Club are delighted to announce that defender Ben Coker has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2016.
Coker only joined Blues in 2013, but has had a very impressive season at left-back, appearing in every game but one so far.
The 24-year-old put pen-to-paper on a new deal this afternoon, with the option of a further year at the end of his current deal in the club's favour.
The left-back joined on a free in the summer, having begun his career in non-league with Histon, Barton Rovers and Bury Town.
He earned a switch to Blues’ Essex rivals Colchester United, but left by mutual consent in February 2013.
After a spell back with Histon, he had a trial with Blues this summer, and impressed, signing an initial two-year deal.
Coker becomes the fourth player to sign a new deal this term, following the contract extensions of Daniel Bentley, Kevan Hurst and Ryan Leonard.
Blues’ number three was delighted to agree a new deal. He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and I believe this club is moving in the right direction.
“I wanted to be part of that. I’ve been really impressed with how the manager works, and believe he can really help me to continue developing as a player.”
A full interview with Ben will be available shortly on Blues Player.
