Last Time Out: AFC Wimbledon

10 April 2014

A look back at the 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon earlier in the season...

Southend United’s last game against AFC Wimbledon ended in victory, as Cauley Woodrow came off the bench to head home the winner in a 1-0 win.

The Boxing Day fixture saw Blues pick up an important three points, following a defeat to Torquay United and a draw with Rochdale.

George Francomb was sent off for the Dons in the first-half, for a challenge on loanee Rob Kiernan – in what would prove to be Kiernan’s last game for Blues.

Despite the man advantage, Blues were frustrated by a resilient Dons side.

That was until Woodrow came off the bench to power home a header from John White’s cross.

It was the striker’s second goal in the league, and fourth in total, and would be his last before being recalled by Fulham.

Here are highlights of that 1-0 win against the Dons:

Blues: Bentley; White, Phillips, Kiernan, Coker; Atkinson, Leonard (Woodrow 59), Timlin; Hurst, Straker (Laird 82), Corr (Eastwood 70).

Subs not used: Smith, Payne, Thompson, Clifford
