- AFC Wimbledon were formed in 2002, following the decision of Wimbledon FC’s to relocate to Milton Keynes.
- Their first ever game was a pre-season friendly against Sutton United, which resulted in a 4-0 loss in front of a crowd of 4,657.
- 230 players attended their player trials that were held on 29 June 2002, as they had to be ready for the 2002-03 season.
- In their inaugural season, they finished second in the Combined Counties League Premier Division and narrowly missed out on promotion.
- The following season they were promoted, as they also won the Premier Challenge Cup, beating North Greenford United.
- AFC Wimbledon would go on to win promotion five times in nine season and joined the Football League in 2011.
- They won promotion from the Conference alongside Crawley Town. The Dons beat Luton Town in the play-off final.
- They became the first ever club formed in the 21st century to play in the Football League.
- Since they were formed, their shirts have been sponsored by Sports Interactive – who produce the video game Football Manager.
- Their mascot, Haydon, ran the London Marathon in 2010.
- AFC Wimbledon hold the record for the longest unbeaten run of league games in English senior football, having gone 78 games without defeat between February 2003 and December 2004.
