Development side beat Oxford United 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon

Southend United’s development side picked up another win on Tuesday, as they beat Oxford United 2-1 away.

The goals came from young striker Jason Williams and midfielder Bedsente Gomis, after Oxford had taken the lead.

Luke Chambers saved a penalty for Blues with the scores level in the 70th minute.

Graham Coughlan said after the game: “It wasn’t a great performance because the pitch conditions did make it difficult.

“But the lads worked extremely hard in hot conditions to come away with the victory.

“We went behind in the game and battled back well, it was good to see Jason Williams get a goal.

“I wasn’t sure who got the winner, Bedsente and Jack Payne both tried to claim it, but I think Gomis got the final touch.”

Chambers, Adam Thompson, Luke Prosser, Anthony Straker, Ryan Auger, Jack Payne and Gomis all played in the game, along with youngsters Jack Bridge, Williams and Josh Banton.
