Barry Corr says Blues aren't celebrating a play-off spot, they want to be celebrating promotion via the play-offs
Barry Corr was delighted to make it three goals in four games since returning from suspension, and all but seal Southend United’s spot in the League 2 end-of-season play-offs.
But the striker immediately insisted Blues would not be celebrating just yet – as the real target is promotion via the play-offs.
He said: “We’re not celebrating because we’ve got in the play-offs, we want to be celebrating because we’ve won promotion at Wembley.
“Of course we’re pleased to all but seal our place in them because we knew the automatics were out of reach, and we had to be them to have a chance of promotion.
“We’ve still got two games left of the normal season to make sure we keep that momentum going that we’ve built up over the last few weeks.
“That’s now five wins in six games, so we have hit some real form at the right time of the season to hopefully take into three games in the play-offs.”
Corr, who missed three games through suspension, has hit three goals in four games since returning, to take his tally to 11 goals for the campaign.
He was pleased to scored the winner against Accrington Stanley, and believes the break, which he didn’t particularly want, may have done him good.
He said: “It was nice to be able to score the goal that got us an important three points. We had to work hard and wait for the chance.
“Thankfully it fell to me and I was able to take it and get us the win. I’m delighted to have got three goals in four games.
“Having that time out of the side through suspension was so disappointing but maybe in a way it has done me good by allowing me to get refreshed.
“I’d played in almost every game up until then, and while it was frustrating, I’m feeling really good ahead of the remaining games.”
