Phil Brown delighted to agree new contract with defender Ben Coker, and praised the left-back for his efforts since joining the club
Phil Brown says Ben Coker’s rise from summer trialist to new and improved contract is testimony to the player himself.
Coker impressed Blues’ boss on trial with the club in the pre-season, impressing against Braintree Town before signing a deal ahead of the friendly against Chelmsford City.
Since then, the left-back has played in every game this season, bar one due to suspension, and has impressed as Blues look to earn promotion from League 2.
Brown said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve got Ben secured for another two, possibly three, years.
“Ben has been rewarded for being one of the most consistent players in the team this season, along with a number of others.
“Everyone knows what Kevan Hurst is about, and why he got a new contract, Ryan Leonard has developed massively in midfield this season and Dan Bentley everyone knows about because he came through the academy.
“Ben has come in on trial and earned a contract in the summer, then produced all season to earn himself a new deal.
“That is testimony to the boy himself and all credit to him as an individual for earning the new contract.
“He’ll be the first to credit his team mates for his form this season, but it’s a culmination of a season of hard work, and I’m delighted to secure his services for the future.”
