An opportunity to work as a Senior Academy Physiotherapist has arisen at Southend United

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Southend United Football Club for a Senior Academy Physiotherapist. Primarily based at Southend United’s Boots & Laces Training Ground, you will become an essential part of a dynamic Sports Medicine Department working within the EPPP guidelines for a Category 3 Academy. 

We are looking for a Chartered Physiotherapist with the ability to manage and coordinate the sports medicine provision for players in the Southend United Academy. The role will involve working within a progressive sports medicine team, and overseeing a team of part-time physiotherapists. A key aspect of the role we will be to implement new strategies and processes for the Academy medical department to work within meeting the EPPP medical frameworks. 

We are looking for a hardworking, highly motivated individual able to deal with the demands of working within full-time football. The role will require implementation of skills in injury prevention, management and rehabilitation throughout the Academy. The day-to-day role will require the delivery of physiotherapy and co-ordination of individual rehabilitation programmes. Opportunities also exist to work with the professional squad. Reviewing practice will be a key aspect of the role in addition to collecting data on activities, assessing outcomes and reporting back to the management team and players. 

Ideally candidates should have experience of providing physiotherapy to young athletes and be able to apply appropriate communication skills with colleagues, players, parents and coaches. Whilst reporting to the Academy Manager and Head Physiotherapist, you will be expected to work with a degree of autonomy and apply your own ideas to the role allowing a degree of creativity and critical thinking within the EPPP guidelines. 

Applicants must possess full membership to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and be registered with the Health Professions Council. A First Aid for Sport Qualification or an equivalent or higher qualification is also required, and the applicant must also be willing to undertake a programme of Continual Professional Development. 

All employees of the Club must adhere to the rules and regulations of the Football League and Football Association and not knowingly do anything or omit to do anything which will cause the Club to be in breach of the Laws of the Game, the Rules of the Football Association or the Rules and Regulations of the Football League.
