Defender can't wait for Saturday's game against Morecambe
Mark Phillips is hoping he can return to the side this weekend, and help Blues get back to winning ways when Jim Bentley's Morecambe visit Roots Hall on Saturday.
The defender has missed Blues’ last three games through injury and was not involved in the two defeats against Chesterfield and Wycombe Wanderers.
Mark says he has been bitterly disappointed to miss the last three weeks of action, but is hoping a return to the team can help Blues bounce back following back-to-back defeats.
He said: “There’s never a nice time to get injured but to miss three games so early on in the season is really disappointing, it’s been really tough for me being sat watching.
“I was really enjoying my football at the start of the season. I’d come back for pre-season in really good shape and thought I’d done well in the first three games of the season.
“So to be ruled out injured and miss three games was tough. I’m back fit now though and I’ve had a good week training leading up to the game.
“Hopefully I’ll be involved on Saturday and can play a part in helping us get back to winning ways.”
Mark played a part in two clean sheets in the two league games he’s featured in so far this season. He’d like to make that three this weekend and help the rest of the defence keep Morecambe at bay.
He added: “You keep a clean sheet as a team. As a defender you always want to keep a clean sheet because you feel you’ve done your job as a defender.
“I know the lads are disappointed with the way we’ve conceded goals in the last two games but we can put that right on Saturday against Morecambe.
“We’ve been putting in good performances all season and it’s all about keeping up those levels and making sure we get the three points too. I’m confident we can do that this weekend.”
