Brown on Woodrow, consistency & Phillips

3 September 2013

Phil Brown on a number of topics

Phil Brown on Cauley Woodrow…

“Cauley is an excellent prospect who is rated very highly by his club Fulham. I thought we were a bit short up front having seen Don Cowan leave and it’s great we’ve been able to get him in. He’s scored goals for Fulham’s reserve side and under-18 side so hopefully he can do the same here. I went to watch another Fulham youngster last week but he immediately stood out, and Bob Shaw also saw a lot of promise in him, so we’re pleased to have him here. He’ll be involved on Saturday.”

Phil Brown on consistency…

“I think one thing we’re going to have to work on is our consistency. I thought Ryan Leonard had his best game on Saturday and now it’s all about building on that. We’ve got a young squad and for them to go on and be really top players, they’ve got to get that consistency in their game. I’m sure with the right coaching and attitude they can achieve that. I’ve said all along our more senior players can play a massive part in helping our younger players and they are doing a good job of that.”

Phil Brown on opposing manager compliments…

"Both Paul Cook and Gareth Ainsworth have been complimentary of our performances in the last two games, but of course that means nothing if we don’t pick up the three points. Gareth was very complimentary after Saturday and believes we’ll be right up there come the end of the season, and I do too. We’ve got that belief among the squad.”

Phil Brown on Mark Phillips…

“Mark is back training this week and will hopefully be available for the game against Chesterfield this weekend. He’s a big player for us because he brings a lot of experience to the table. We’ve lost both games without him in the side and that maybe tells you how important a player he is for us when he’s out on the pitch.”

Phil Brown on behind closed doors friendlies…

“I think we’ve got about nine or ten arranged throughout the season so far. We’ve played Dagenham & Redbridge and Oxford United (today) in the last couple of weeks. It’s giving the young players we’ve got a good chance and also the likes of Kevan Hurst and Michael Timlin who haven’t had as much game time so far this season. I think these sort of games are very important for us.”
