Defender says Blues showed they are full of character as they found late winner at the Pirelli Stadium
Mark Phillips praised Blues’ character as they made it four games unbeaten with a late winner against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.
Phillips was partnered in defence by Rob Kiernan who only signed for the club on the morning of the match.
And the experienced defender says Blues showed plenty of character to find a winning goal against the ten-men of Burton.
He said: “We’ve got a lot of character in this team and we had to show that against Burton Albion.
“We kept going, kept plugging away and finally got the reward when Freddy popped up with the winning goal.
“It was about time we had lady luck on our side. We’ve not had much of it go our way this season so it was nice to have it today.
“They didn’t create too many chances but as I say, we had that little bit of luck when they hit the post late on.
“Freddy is an excellent striker and you always fancy him to get a chance during a game.
“He’s come off the bench today and got the winner so we’re all delighted for him.
“As a defender it’s great that we’ve kept another clean sheet. That’s two in a row now which is also very important.”
Phillips also welcomed the arrival of Kiernan and was impressed by the 22-year-old’s display.
He added: “It was good playing alongside Rob today, we kept a clean sheet which is great for both of us.
“He’s a good player and I think that showed today, it’s great to have him at the club.
“It means there will be good competition for places in defence with Adam Thompson and Luke Prosser back available for the next game – that can only be a good thing.”
