Conor celebrated his 22nd birthday with a start and a goal in Blues' 2-0 win at Oxford United
Conor Clifford says it’s been the perfect week for him having celebrated his 22nd birthday and helped Blues get back to winning ways against Oxford United on Saturday.
Conor celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, the same day he scored against Colchester United in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
The midfielder was then recalled to the side from the start against Oxford and gave Blues the lead inside the opening 15 minutes.
He said: “It’s been a really good week for me actually. It was my birthday earlier this week, I scored against Colchester and was then starting today.
“It was great to start and even better to score – this was the best birthday present of the lot to be honest.
“It’s been frustrating being on the bench but to be honest I completely understand as Will Atkinson and Ryan Leonard have been two of our best players this season.
“I knew I just had to wait for my chance and thankfully that came today. We changed formation slightly and I think it worked!
“Hopefully I have done enough to keep my place in the team now. We’ve got to build on the win. I just want to be playing football so hopefully I’m involved on Tuesday.”
Conor says the performance was excellent, and felt Blues could have won by a bigger margin.
He added: “It was a really good team performance. We all worked really hard from front to back and deserved the three points.
“I think this performance has been coming. We’ve all been working really hard and we’ve come to Oxford and put it a top display.
“We had chances to win it by even more but in the end 2-0 was enough to win the game.
“I actually told my dad I was going to score so I’ll be making sure he watches the highlights on Saturday evening.”
