Defender ready to step in for the suspended John White
Ryan Auger is hoping he can get his chance this weekend with captain John White out suspended.
The 19-year-old has been on the bench a handful of times this season but is yet to make a first-team appearance.
That could all change this weekend with White out suspended, and Auger is relishing the opportunity should it happen.
He said: “I’m definitely ready to make my debut if the manager selects me.
“I’ve been working really hard and have thoroughly enjoyed being around the first-team all the time.
“Playing in the behind-closed-doors friendlies has been great and has really helped me to develop my game.
“I thought I hadn’t played well in one recently but then saw the manager’s comments saying he was impressed and that filled me with confidence.
“Obviously with John suspended there is a chance I could play but we’ll have to wait and see if I’m involved.
“John has been a big help and I’ve learned a lot from him every day in training. He’s passing his experience on to me and that’s great.”
Auger says he’s taking the impressive form of Jack Payne into consideration and is not surprised my the midfielder’s excellent start to the season.
He added: “I’ve played with Jack for a while now and I’ve seen how good he is so I’m not surprised at all with the impact he’s made on the team.
“Having seen him done so well it would be great to follow his path and really make a mark on the first-team.
“If I do get the chance on Saturday there won’t be any nerves, I’ll just be really looking forward to trying to impress and help the team get three points.”
