Coughlan: A worthwhile exercise

12 November 2013

Blues' development squad beaten 4-1 by Charlton's Under-21 side

Graham Coughlan was pleased with the display from Blues’ development squad, despite the defeat to Charlton’s under-21 side.

Jack Payne’s goal wasn’t enough as Blues fell to a 4-1 defeat against the Addicks, but Coughlan was impressed and was also pleased to see Mark Phillips and Marc Laird come through the game without injury.

He said: “They were a good side who play alongside each other every week so are used to how one another plays, but we put in a good performance.

“There were a lot of youngsters who impressed like Seedy Njie who came off the bench and Harry Norman in midfield.

“It was also great to see Mark Phillips and Marc Laird get some game time following suspension and injury. They both performed well.

“We created some good chances and it was a very worthwhile exercise for all involved.

“These games are vital for those who haven’t been playing regularly to keep up their match fitness.”

Blues: Smith, Edwards, Phillips, Matsuzaka, Auger; Laird, Norman, Gomis, Agyakwa, Payne; Reid. Subs: Bridge, Njie, Pinnock, Banton.
