Phil Brown delighted for everyone involved as Blues beat Mansfield Town 3-0 at Roots Hall
Phil Brown says he was ‘delighted for everyone’ after an excellent performance from his side saw them beat Mansfield Town 3-0 at Roots Hall on Friday night.
Brown was delighted with his side, in which he had to make two changes just before kick-off due to delays on the M25.
Anthony Straker was one of the players to benefit from that and it paid off as he opened the scoring before an own goal and a Kevan Hurst strike sealed the win.
Brown said: “There were so many positives to take from the performance. I’m delighted for everyone.
“I’m very happy this evening because the players deserved that. They did really well and played some good football.
“We spent Wednesday and Thursday working on the team and low and behold we had to make two changes just before kick-off.
“John White was always going to come back in but we had to move Ryan Leonard to right back and Michael Timlin came in too.
“Anthony Straker also came in and he really drove us forward all game because he got us into their half.
“Kevan Hurst also did really well on the other wing so it’s great that they both got on the scoresheet.”
Brown was also pleased with Michael Timlin’s display as he came back into the side.
“In unusual circumstances he got his grab and my god did he grab the shirt,” he said.
“He looked back to his best and did really well, despite only getting the call late on. He was outstanding.
“Of course with Conor Clifford getting sent off it means he’ll miss a few games and Tims has certainly done enough tonight to suggest he’s back.
“Conor went in quite hard but that’s the type of player he is and you can’t take that away from him.
“It was a bit of weird game, but I was delighted with the all round display. We put Newport behind us and hopefully we’ve put a smile on the faces of the fans again.”
