Brown: Boss on Leonard and Laird

25 November 2013

Phil Brown on Ryan Leonard's injury and Marc Laird starting against York City

Phil Brown says Ryan Leonard could be out for a couple of weeks following a hamstring injury picked up in training.

Leonard was replaced by Marc Laird, making his first start since August 17th, for the 2-1 win against York City.

Blues’ boss says Laird brings something different to Lenny, and it’ll take time for him to get back to full match fitness.

He said: “With Leonard it’s his hamstring. I believe he’s had a history of knocked there and this time it was an impact injury.

“It happened in a behind-closed-doors game on Tuesday and was the result of a tackle from a team mate. It’s probably a grade one so he’ll be out for a couple of weeks.

“Marc came in to the side in a different role to the one he was playing before he picked up his injury.

“With Leonard out the side you see what you’re missing, but Lairdy brings something else which is the passing side of the game.

“It was tough for him but he did well and he had to get through it physically.

“He is aerobically unbelievable but he was maybe just missing that little bit of match sharpness that will only come with games.”
