Pinnock can't wait for season to start

22 May 2013

Mitchell Pinnock says he can’t wait for pre-season to get underway after agreeing a two-year professional contract.

The left midfielder agreed terms on Wednesday and is now looking forward to reporting back for first-team pre-season training on June 10th.

The under-23 players in the squad will be reporting back two weeks earlier than the full team, and Mitchell admits the hard work starts now.

He said: “I’m delighted to have signed the deal with Southend, it’s a club I’ve been with for a number of years now and I really enjoy being here.

“I had a small taste of first-team action towards the end of last season and that has made me even hungrier to achieve in the game.

“It’s an incredible feeling signing your first professional contract, similar to making your debut. They are moments you’ll always remember.

“The younger members of the team are back in a bit earlier on June 10th and I’m already looking forward to that, it’s fair to say the hard work starts now but I can’t wait.

“I spoke with Phil Brown a little bit towards the end of the season and I’m sure he’ll have plans as to how I can develop my game, I’m really looking forward to working day in day out with him and the rest of the first-team.”

Mitchell, who has been part of the youth team since the age of 15, thanked the youth department for all their hard work in helping him secure a pro deal.

“I’d just like to say a massive thank you to Ricky and everyone else involved in the youth setup because they’ve been brilliant," he added.

“Ricky has said I can always go to him if I need anything next season, he’s been a big help in my career so far.”

Mitch has been working hard since the end of the season in a bid to make sure he's in the best possible shape for the start of pre-season.

He added: “I’ve been doing some work at home to keep ticking over and I’ve not been away anywhere.

“There’s not long now until the 10th June when the under-23 players report back for pre-season.

“Hopefully I can impress during pre-season, play in a number of friendlies and be involved in the squad on a number of occasions next season.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge and I am sure we can have a successful season as a team.”
