Phil Brown on pre-season friendlies

6 May 2013

Boss looks at three games already confirmed and plans for six or seven

Phil Brown says he hopes to have six or seven friendlies this pre-season after the first three were confirmed last week.

Blues begin pre-season against Great Wakering before visiting Bishop’s Stortford and Braintree Town and Brown believes these three games will provide a perfect opportunity for the players to get back up to speed.

Brown said: “The way I look at it, you get teams who are playing non-league football, no disrespect, slightly lesser teams, to give you a good game early on.

“It’s a new part of the world to me but I’ve been told they aren’t too far to travel and that’s ideal.

“By the time the third fixtures comes along the whole squad should be up to speed and capable of playing 90 minutes.

“Then the serious business of facing league teams starts in time for the 3rd of August and the start of the season.

“We’re all looking forward to the first game and we’ll be ready as a team.

“If you’ve got a squad of 22-25 players then the majority of those will need three or four 90 minutes under their belt by the time the season comes around.

“We will try to prepare them physically and mentally for the challenge ahead this season.

“Ideally I’d like to prepare six or seven friendlies, then we’ll be in shape for the season.”
