Trials for the Futsal Scholarship are to be held on the 12th June, at David Lloyd Leisure
If you’re 16-18 years old, want to play for Southend United Futsal team, and study for your BTEC level 3 in sport then apply now.
The scholarship combines studying for a BTEC Level 3 in Sport, with training taken by a Southend United Centre of Excellence coach and competitive games in an organised league against other Futsal teams such as Leyton Orient, Ipswich Town, West Ham, and Crystal Palace.
Futsal is a small sided game of football played indoors that improves ball manipulation, control and reaction. It’s played at a high tempo and takes the athletes to their highest performance boundaries. Players that started through Futsal include Messi, Ronaldo and Fabregas.
The BTEC covers units such as Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness testing and Training, Nutrition, Psychology, Technical Skills and coaching to name a few, and lessons are held at Roots Hall.
Training is held twice a week at David Lloyd Southend, and covers all professional aspects which will help you to improve your fitness and technique in a Futsal specific environment.
The BTEC course lasts 2 years, although options to accredit after 1 year are available. It also gives students the opportunity to gain coaching and referee qualifications as part of the course.
