Phil Brown says he has replacements in mind should Blues’ out-of-contract players decide to move on, but remains hopeful they will all be at Roots Hall next season.
Offers have been put on the table to Sean Clohessy, Gavin Tomlin, Luke Prosser and Michael Timlin by the club.
Brown is hopeful they will remain here for next season, but expects there to be interest in the four players.
He said: “Offers have been made to Sean, Gavin, Luke and Michael but they will be discussing everything with their representatives at the moment I expect and they will be putting it about that they’ve been offered new deals.
“It’s really a game of cards at the moment, we’re sitting down with some very good players discussing their futures here at the football club.
“Sean Clohessy should probably have been offered a new deal halfway through the season but that didn’t happen so it’s up to me to get him to sign a new deal.
“Hopefully he liked the way I managed and put my ideas across in training towards the end of the season and wants to be here next season.
“Luke Prosser did very well when we was available so we’d like him to renew and we all know what Gavin Tomlin brings to the table and what he can do.
“Obviously I didn’t see Michael play, but he’s a player I would like to have here next season.
“The way contracts are designed nowadays players are with a club until June 30th, so we’re busy trying to identify players and areas we want to improve.
“It would be foolish of me if I wasn’t planning with it in mind that some of the out of contract players may move on.
“A new chief scout/head of recruitment should be starting in the next couple of weeks and he will hit the ground running. He has 15 years experience in the game and he’ll be able to earmark certain targets.
“It will all move quickly from there I would imagine, there’s probably a lot of nervous players out there at the moment waiting to see what will happen to them next season.”
