Brown keeping an eye on former loanees

Boss says he would be interested in having them at the club next season

Phil Brown has said he will look at the possibility of trying to get some of this season’s loan players back to Roots Hall next season.

Britt Assombalonga, Matthew Lund, Ben Reeves and Tamika Mkandawire have all returned to their parent clubs, but Brown says he would be interested in seeing them here again next season.

He said: “I was more than impressed with the attitude of Britt Assombalonga and the ability levels he showed during his time here.

“He’s going back to a parent club at a higher level but I have already made contact with the Italian connections of Watford to get us to the front of the line so to speak.

“If there was the possibility of loaning him back next season I would be very interested because I believe he’s good a great future in the game.

“Matthew Lund is someone who I thought responded really well to missing out on the cup final and then coming back in for the league matches.

“He stamped his authority or two or three of the games and showed some very promising signs.

“I thought we really missed Tamika Mkandawire in the final two games of the season.

“He signed off with two clean sheets and two solid performances in what I feel is his best position at centre back, so I would be interested in bringing him back.

“Finally Ben Reeves, he seemed to find himself permanently with a small injury or knock towards the end of the season but we’ll keep an eye on him and see how things progress over the summer.”
