Previous away wins give us confidence

Defender Ryan Cresswell says Blues can take confidence from wins against Port Vale, Chesterfield and Wycombe

Ryan Cresswell says Blues must take confidence from positive away performances earlier in the season as they look to get back to winning ways against Rochdale on Saturday.

Blues have recorded excellent away victories at Port Vale, Chesterfield and Wycombe Wanderers since the turn of the year, and Cresswell says those results will give Blues belief when they travel to Rochdale.

Cresswell admits confidence is low at the moment, and while Blues must correct their home form in the remaining three games at Roots Hall, he believes playing away from home on Saturday may have come at the right time.

The defender said: “We have picked up some excellent results so far this season and can take this into Saturday. Confidence might be a bit low at the moment because of our last three results but to be honest we’ve got a really good group in that dressing room.

“The last three results haven’t been good enough, it’s as simple as that, but maybe this away game has come at a good time for us as we look to get back to winning ways. There’s no doubt that we’ve got to put our home form right in the last three matches remaining, but we’ve got two away games now that we want to take six points from.

“We’ve put in some good performances on the road, the win at Port Vale showed that we are a good team and we’ve got to take everything from that game into the one at Rochdale on Saturday. We’ve got seven cup finals now in the league, starting this weekend, and we’re going there to get three points.

“A draw earlier in the season away at Rochdale might’ve been a good result, but we’ve got to win so that’s exactly what we’re going there to do.”

Cresswell added that Rochdale themselves will provide a stern test, as they look to battle their way away from the danger at the bottom of the table.

“Keith Hill has come back for his second spell and he’s done well, but they do seem to be struggling a little bit,” Ryan added. “We’ve played against three teams in the last week and a half who are battling against relegation and they’ve showed they are up for the fight.

“We’ve got to do exactly the same against Rochdale on Saturday and show we are up for the fight in terms of trying to push us back up the table and close the gap on the play-off places.”
