Blues unveil Phil Brown as the Club's new manager
Southend United Football Club are delighted to announce the arrival of Phil Brown as manager.
Phil has previously managed at Derby County, Hull City and Preston North End, as well as a spell as caretaker manager at Bolton Wanderers.
The 53-year-old, who guided Hull City to promotion to the Premier League in 2008, will take charge of Blues for the first time against Bradford City on Good Friday.
Phil has signed a deal with the Club that will see him remain at Roots Hall until the end of the 2014/15 season.
His first home game in charge will be on Bank Holiday Monday when Blues take on play-off hopefuls Fleetwood Town.
Phil said: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity here at Southend and it’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to.
“We’ve got seven league games between now and the end of the season, hopefully we can put a winning run together and give ourselves a chance of reaching the play-offs.
“We’ve got a few days of training between now and the game against Bradford that will give me a chance to take a look at the players.
“The Easter period is always tough because you play twice in such a short space of time, but it’s a good opportunity to pick up six points and get that winning run started.”
Graham Coughlan will continue his duties as assistant manager.
There will be a Press Conference at 8:30am tomorrow morning to formally introduce Phil as the new manager.
